Elvis birthday today would have been his 75th - which is incredible when you think of it!

"The King of Rock and Roll" Elvis Aaron Presley was born in East Tupelo, Mississippi. He had a twin brother named Jesse Garon Presley, who died at birth. Many people wonder how different the landscape of music would be if Jesse would have been the twin that survived. There would be no "King of Rock and Roll." Or maybe there would have been a different King. There is no way to know, but it an interesting topic to think and debate about.
Elvis' parents were a seamstress and a truck driver. At age 13, his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. In 1955, at age 20 Elvis signed with RCA Records. What a lot of people don't know is that before he became "The King," he used the stage name, "The Hillbilly Cat" While singing locally around the Memphis area.
In 1956, played a part in his part in a move in "Love Me Tender." He played a supporting role in the movie. His acting career spanned over 33 movies. While his movies were not critically acclaimed, they were major successes at the box office. His movies earned over $150 million at the box office. In the 1960s, Elvis resided in Hollywood and starred in more than 20 movies. He starred alongside some of the greatest actors of his era in his movies.
Presley was offered the starring role alongside Barbara Streisand in the remake of "A Star is Born." This role would eventually be played by Kris Kristofferson. He was also chosen to play Tony in the famous musical "West Side Story." Many other famous actors such as Warren Beatty and Burt Reynolds also additioned for the role, but initially the director had pegged Elvis as his primary target. The director, Robert Wise, eventually settled on Richard Beymer for the part.
Elvis Presley, like Marilyn Monroe was a Capricorn. He was born January 8, 1935.
Elvis and his wife, Priscilla, experimented with LSD in 1965 for the first time. At the time LSD was legal. This was a strange event for Presley, because at the time he didn't drink and was opposed to most illegal drugs. Elvis was a very spiritual man, and when people first began using LSD it was said to be an aid to people on spiritual journies.
"The King of Rock and Roll" was a huge fan of James Dean. Even though Dean died before made it big, it still had a huge impact on Elvis. It is said that Presley cried when he was informed about the death of James Dean.
A little-known fact about Elvis is that as a kid he was a sleepwalker. Sleepwalking was very prevalent in his family. By the time he was an adult, he had stopped sleepwalking.
You may know that Presley started out as a truck driver, but did you know that before being a truck driver he worked as an usher? He showed people to their seats before the start of movies. He did this at the Loew's State Theater on Main Street in Memphis. Rumor has it that he lost the job because the girls in attendance liked him a little too much.
